Environment
Our Lactoprot sites and our subsidiary Dairyfood are certified according to ISO 50001. This environmental standard, recognized throughout the world, helps us to tap potential for greater energy efficiency and lower our energy costs. With the certification we have undertaken voluntarily to reduce our specific energy consumption year by year. We link this energy policy, which we implement at all our sites, with concrete objectives. The measures include suggestions from employees and originate from our internal idea management process.
Sustainable raw material stream
We also regularly invest in new, environmentally friendly technologies. Real pioneering work is behind a special plant at the Leezen location. With its help, salts that arise during the production of acid casein can be processed in such a way that they can be returned to the natural cycle as a concentrate - usually as a basis for fertilizer. Lactoprot has thus permanently solved a disposal problem that other companies are also facing: Fewer and fewer sewage treatment plants are able to cope with the so-called RO retentate from acid casein production. Production residues therefore often have to be transported over long distances. Lactoprot won SALTTECH as a partner for the construction of the globally pioneering system. The company from the Netherlands specializes in seawater and industrial water desalination. The system, which went into operation at the end of 2020, also meets the highest energy requirements thanks to permanent heat exchange.
Weight-reduced milk tankers
Another example of better environmental and climate protection is the renewal of our fleet. Thanks to weight optimization, our milk tankers now have two tons more payload. This reduces emissions from milk transport, thus enabling us to improve our carbon footprint.
